Abha Adams

Abha Adams has created an enviable reputation as an innovative educationalist of integrity and intelligence.

Before starting the Abha Adams Consultancy Abha spent over 30 years in education in India and the UK. With her wealth of distinguished service Abha is ideally equipped to help you develop your school or college.

Personal History
For 13 years Abha Adams worked for the Shri Ram Schools. She joined the Shri Ram School as Head of the Senior School in February 1993. Later that year she became Principal of the school. She became Director of the Shri Ram Schools in April 2000 July, and in July 2003 also became Director of Shri Ram Educare, an education consulting company.

As Director of the three Shri Ram Schools Abha was responsible for all aspects of their development and management. The schools cater for students at three different sites in Delhi and DLF (Haryana). Her responsibilities included the management of a workforce of over 400 staff. As Director of Shri Ram Educare she was responsible for all aspects of the company's operations.

During Abha's time with the Shri Ram Schools she managed the growth and development of two new schools, and an increase in capacity from 700 students to 2500. She was directly responsible for the introduction of innovations in the teaching of Special Needs, Craft Design Technology, Theatre Arts, Sports, and Conservation and Environmental Management. She also successfully introduced the International Baccalaureate. On taking over Shri Ram Educare she turned around the fortunes of the company and developed many new consultancies with schools throughout the country.
During her illustrious career Mrs Adams has been a member of the executive of the Council for Indian Schools, a member of the Standing Committee on Examinations, and a member of the Awards Committee. Since 2001 she has been on the Board of Governors of the Assam Valley School, Assam, and the Eklavya Institute of Teacher Education, Ahmedabad.
Mrs Adams is a prolific writer on education, and an accomplished orator. Her presentations include papers for the Indian Economic Summit 2000 and the World Economic Forum, November 2000. Papers presented at conferences organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry include ' Quality Practices that can Govern Schools' , ' Understanding Societal Needs - Successful Social Development Programs in Schools', and ' Progressive Education in India' . For the National Progressive School's Conference she presented a paper on 'Preparing Students for Globalization, and for The Australia - India Conference, her topic was ' The Use of Technology in the Classrooms of the Future'
As well as regular contributions to leading newspapers and magazines dealing with issues on education and the Performing Arts, her publications include: The Reading Habit: Telling Tales, Children's Literature in India, Edited by Amit Dasgupta, - Book published jointly by the Indian Council for Cultural relations and Wiley Eastern Publishers Limited, and The Performing Arts in the Curriculum - A Fairy Tale waiting to Happen. - School Net Quarterly.

In 2004, in recognition of her contribution to education she was given the Most Distinguished Alumni Award by Lady Shri Ram College. New Delhi.

Prior to the Shri Ram Schools, she was Director of ADiTi -The National Organisation of South Asian Dance , (UK BASED) and a member of the Dance Panel of the Arts Council of Great Britain . She was responsible for all aspects of the organisation, and the allocation of grants to all dance companies throughout the United Kingdom. (Annual Budget: $12 Million). During this period she was a Council Member of Yorkshire & Humberside Arts Board, and an Advisory Council Member for BBC North as well as a Council Member, Leeds Playhouse Community Services
Prior to this, Mrs. Adams was with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in the UK. During her tenure with the BBC, she worked as Producer/Presenter, then as the Education Producer, and finally as Features Editor at BBC Radio Leeds. In this position she was responsible for all non-news programming across the network. This included Public Service Broadcasting, Special Projects, Outside Broadcasts, Promotions, and overseeing ethnic programmes for the Asian and Afro Caribbean communities.
During this time she won the Television and Radio Industries Club, President's Award . The award was given for the most outstanding programme(s) aimed at the community. She was also nominated for a SONY AWARD (Radio equivalent of the Oscars) in the category, 'Outstanding Public Service to the Community' for the work of the Features/Public Service Unit.
For eight years after leaving college Mrs Adams was a Lecturer in English and Drama, at Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, where she taught Undergraduate and Post Graduate Students. During this time she was also Administrative Director for the Theatre Action Group , (TAG), and a freelance Producer/Presenter making youth programmes for All India Radio as well as a Presenter of youth programmes on Doordarshan Television .

Mrs. Adams has BA and a M.A. in English Literature from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, and a MA and an M. Phil. in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of Leeds, UK.
